Kumbh: Festival of mass pilgrimage UNESCO has proclaimed Kumbh Mela as the world’s largest religious human gathering in the world’s history. It is the Grand Confluence of Faith, Culture, and Humanity and people of all caste, creed, color or religion gather to withness India’s rich spiritual tradition. Kumbh can be a onetime experience for witnessing variety of hindu rituals and practices, procession of naga sadhus, ritual bathing, traditional cultural performances, exhibitions and fairs. The kumbh is believed to be a scared occasion where all the sins are redeemed upon bathing in the holy rivers and person is liberated from all miseries and sufferings. It is way to achieve salvation (Moksha) leading to liberation from the cycle of birth and death. According to mythological tales, during samudra mathan (churning of the ocean by devas and asuras), a amrit kalash (nectar pot) emerged and it was believed to impart immortality. Devas and Asuras fought with each other for amrit kalash pot but Lord Vishnu has to take Mohini Avatar to protect the pot from Asuras. While taking the amrit kalash, few drops of amrit fell at Haridwar, Prayagraj, Nashik and Ujjain. It is believed that at these places according to the position of astrological stars, the water of those holy rivers turns into nectar.
